Early years:
Born Sept. 24th 1967; Jesup, GA.
Lisa grew up in the military town of Enterprise, Alabama. Her father died early in her life, leaving her mother with the task of finding things for her and her siblings to do after school while she worked. Local art teacher, Rosa Quattlebaum showed Lisa the basics in drawing and painting. Mixing colors and making dozens of paintings soon unfolded a passion with art which would guide her life.
She studied painting and art history in Georgia at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Learning about art and artists through the ages was just what she needed to open her eyes toward realizing her own style. In a bit of an homage to her grandmother who knitted and sewed quilts, Lisa began using yarn to join her canvases in a bit of a patchwork style. This, along with other media, helped her find her focus for her mostly figurative style.
After graduating from SCAD, and receiving the award for 'Excellence in Painting', she moved to Atlanta. There, she began designing and painting kitchen back-splashes for a local ceramic tile design company. Soon, she bought her own small kiln, and began creating small tile designs of her own. She now paints on ceramic tile, as well as sewn oil on canvas paintings.... both mediums feature her mostly female figures in their own exclusive way. Her ceramic paintings are smaller in size than the much larger oil paintings, however they are both equal in elegance.
Most of the artwork in this site is from her ongoing theme,
"Difficult Women".
