"Easy Thoughts on Being 'Difficult'" by Jerry Cullum
Ever since Lisa Shinault's world-famous friend photographer Chris Verene, helped launch her work in 1994, LiShinault (as she now styles herself) has been a presence on the Atlanta alternative scene.
Her "Difficult Women" paintings and tiles have been exhibited in many spaces, and selected works from the series are now at Salon Me and Alcove Gallery. Salon Me also features her first "Impossible Man", extending her portraits of unconventional, challenging personalities.
"Hang My Head" is a smaller series. It refers indirectly to the practice of girls balancing books on their heads for good posture. In this case, it lets viewers know what's in Shinault's head as well as on it.
The titles, including "How to See" and "Please the World", have spoken to enough difficult women and impossible men that Shinault has them as a dominant feature of the show. A few others are still available at Alcove.
